Rosemary’s Open Concept, New Construction Kitchen

One of the most exciting aspects of building a new home is the opportunity to make it completely your own. You don’t have to try to move walls or reroute any utilities, which lets you focus on what you’d like your new space to look and feel like. Our client was starting construction on their new house and knew they wanted their home to be a gathering place for their family. They were starting with a blank canvas and were excited to make the space their own. One of their must-haves was an open-concept so that their family feels connected no matter what part of the living space they are in.

Another must-have was a large kitchen island. Following their guiding principle of a home designed for family, a large island creates a space where kids can gather to do homework while dinner is being prepared, and where the family can eat breakfast in the morning together. A large island also serves as a gathering space for dinner parties with appetizers and drinks. When it came to the design of this island, our clients were inspired by a distressed, worn finish cabinet that was on display in our Athens Showroom.

Our Designer Rosemary worked in collaboration with the client to add some interest to the wall by the vent hood. Originally the homeowners liked the idea of adding some floating shelves but decided to add a little something extra by incorporating glass mullion cabinets doors. These wall cabinets also served a functional purpose — they were used to hide the exhaust pipe and you’d never be able to tell!

The clients were also inspired by a photo they found of contrasting drawer fronts. Rosemary was able to incorporate this feature into the design concept with wooden drawer fronts flanking the oven. This unique feature adds a custom look with the warm wooden hues contrasting the surrounding white cabinets. This added detail also ties in the wood frame on the hood vent, making the oven and the stark white tile backsplash behind it the main focal point in the kitchen.

When you’re building a new home, you are starting with a blank canvas that often won’t have some of the character and charm you’d see in a home that matures through the years. That doesn’t mean we can’t help you add in features that are unique to you and your family. This gorgeous kitchen has the look and a feel of a new space, but also has added design touches that are custom and unique to the homeowner. We love how this kitchen came together!
